Spousal Appeal
This pertains to a failed marriage application before the Immigration Appeal Division (IAD).

When an application to sponsor a spouse for Canadian permanent residency is refused, the sponsor has a right to appeal to the Immigration Appeal Division (IAD).
Common reasons for refusal include:
-
the sponsored spouse has a criminal record
-
the sponsor is in receipt of social assistance
-
the sponsor is in default of sponsorship undertaking (agreement)
-
the spousal appeal before the Immigration Appeal Division was not filed within 30 days of receiving the refusal letter
-
if the marriage is deemed to be a marriage of convenience (or marriage to get permanent residency)
